Conservation of Gen. Pendleton’s Flag

CPHS was given approval by the Base (Camp Pendleton) to fund the preservation of Maj. Gen. Joseph H. Pendleton’s personal two-star flag.

On March 9, 2017, the flag was delivered to the textile conservator, Sharon Shore of Caring for Textiles (Culver City, Calif.), by the Director, Base History & Museum Division.

Sharon provided a textile condition report, pre-treatment and treatment plans, and progress updates of the conservation work being conducted.  The scope of the flag conservation included preliminary examination, surface cleaning, local cleaning with solutions, and stabilization of unrepaired damage (losses to weave).  The flag conservation was completed in mid-Sept. 2017.

General Pendleton’s flag was on display at the 75th Anniversary Evening Colors Ceremony event on Sept. 29, 2017.
